Why insurance premiums are so high

Monday’s mail rained heavily through the mailslot in our door.

Why insurance premiums are so high

I couldn’t believe it when the mail arrived and I counted ten — yes, ten — envelopes from the State Farm central claims office in Murfreesboro, TN.

Each envelope contained an Explanation of Review for a single date of service at a provider. All ten of them were generated on January 2. As if this wasn’t wasteful enough, the pieces weren’t even sent at bulk rate; State Farm paid .36 each, $3.60 in postage!

The thing is, all this paperwork could have (and should have) been put in one 9×12″ envelope and mailed for under a dollar. Multiply this by the hundreds of people whose claims are being processed by this claim center every single day.

What a waste!

I wrote them an e-mail from their site, pretty much quoting what I’ve written here and telling them I was posting it on my blog. I told them I am a long-time State Farm customer and I found this waste of my premium dollars both shocking and disappointing. I said I wanted to contact the head of mail operations at the claims center.

No word back, just yet.

You are very good at letter writing. You should definitely write to them and then see if you get any response.
Incidentally, I just noticed you don’t have a blog roll on your sidebar.

Well.. I was just typing away and everything disappeared.. I don’t know if it submitted or not. Kimberly you can let me know if you received it…I’m sure you read these before posting them anyway…

At least your provider is relatively up to date on your bills. I have yet to receive a notice referring to paying the the ER Physician for my migraine that the doctors thought was something serious & this incident happened around Thanksgiving. I’ve gotten 2 bills from his office though :-). I never did understand what was so hard about combine everything into as few pieces of paper as possible. These guys are almost as far behind as I am ;-)
