We’re both now TWO-rific!

He’s done it! My TWO-rific husband broke the 300 barrier today!

I lost 2 pounds this week and am now at 229. Nine more pounds and I’ll be at my wedding weight. It felt good to clear our my too-big clothes from the closet and offer them on Freecycle today. Dang, it all just feels good.

What we didn’t figure out the other times we dieted was the importance of not only eating less, but eating well. In the past, we stayed within our calories, but we ate those calories in pretzels and sandwiches made with low-cal bread, in fast food, candy bars, and other convenience foods. That stuff gives quick energy, but has practically no real nutritional value. You get that flash of energy, but it’s followed by a crash. Sound familiar?

Now we see that whole-grain breads, though higher in calorie, are better for us. One of our favorites is Brownberry Naturals Health Nut bread. It has lots of fiber, a wonderful nutty flavor, and it’s more filling. Our bodies need a balance between fats, proteins, and carbohydrates.

It’s so neat how it all works together. If I can get personal here…It’s even completely cured my IBS. For about twenty years, I just thought being irregular was normal for me. I could have put an Immodium-AD employee’s child through grad school with what I spent on those pills. It was awful. And now it’s gone.

We don’t want to become obnoxious, something that only puts shame on people and doesn’t help anyone. This has been such a radical change for us, I can’t stress that enough…And it’s exciting! We want to encourage people that change — lasting change — truly is possible. It still blows our minds how habits can change, how the brain can forge new paths and alter how we think. I never thought of myself as being someone who’d enjoy eating healthy. It’s caused a ripple effect in other areas of our lives, too. We just want to encourage people that it’s 100% worth it.

  1. What obnoxious? You are justifiably proud, excited and happy about the changes in both your diets and your life. I wish I had the stamina and willpower to do the same and that Bob would do it with me. But ourlack of commitment does not make it any less exciting to read about your sucesses. So keep posting and I’ll keep cheering!

  2. I don’t think you are obnoxious at all! You’ve discovered a NEW YOU a you that is SO MUCH CLOSER to the way God intended your body to work!! THAT IS WONDERFUL!
And what a STORY you both have to tell!
I’m loveing every minute of it!

  3. I’m just glad to read about your successes. I think you 2 are truly and inspiration and I’m know y’all have inspired me. Hopefully one of these days Jeff will get on board with me.

  4. Thanks, you guys! The last thing I want to be is obnoxious, because I know how defeated and helpless I felt when people who lost a lot of weight were obnoxious; I never want to make anyone feel that way!

Dawnyal, I hope Jeff will get on board with you. It’s so much easier when you’re a united front. It amazes me that Howie just kept on plugging away the year I dilly-dallied around while he stayed on plan. He’s da man!
