Waxing philosophical

Just a few quick quotes for now:

“Hanging onto resentment is like letting someone you despise live rent-free in your head.” — Ann Landers

“Bitterness is like cancer. It eats upon the host. But anger is like fire. It burns it all clean.” — Maya Angelou

“Bitterness imprisons life; love releases it. Bitterness paralyzes life; love empowers it. Bitterness sours life; love sweetens it. Bitterness sickens life; love heals it. Bitterness blinds life; love anoints its eyes.” — Harry Emerson Fosdick

I’m dealing with some stuff, but it’s not quite to the point of bitterness about it. Pondering what bitterness does to us is good preventative medicine!

I got that first quote at a website and looked up more because I thought it was interesting reading extra-Biblical thoughts on what bitterness does to people. We know God tells us not to let a root of bitterness grow in our hearts (tap roots are the worst to get out when you’re weeding, ever notice that?), and it’s interesting to see what others have to say about it.

Those are great. I sometimes have trouble letting things go even though God tells me to. I am working on it though and feel better about it.
