Horton Hears a Who!
The weekend went so quickly! Saturday I met Amy at the local scrapbook store and between that store and Hobby Lobby, we spent about three hours wandering around together. It was SO great spending time with her!
I went to Bou when we were done shopping, settling in and finishing a short article for the scrapbook store’s newsletter. I also finished my design team layout while at the coffee shop; they weren’t busy at the time, so I didn’t feel badly about using part of the big table there.
Our dinner with friends in Columbus was really nice, casual. We’re so glad they moved back to the area from out of state. Shawna made a grilled chicken salad she said was inspired by one at Bob Evans restaurant. It was baby spinach tossed with grilled chicken, shredded cheese, onion, toasted pecans, craisins, and crumbled turkey bacon. It was delicious! We played Texas hold ‘em after dinner, proving yet again that I am a truly lousy card player. Phrases like this escaped my mouth: “Let’s just say, hypothetically, that someone had a rotten hand…”. Yeah, I am that bad. But they all knew it and it was became the running joke of the night.
Tonight we did see Horton Hears a Who! with Amy’s family. What a cute adaptation of the children’s book! I am so blown away by the depth and detail of CGI films. They really bring the characters and the scenery to life. This movie didn’t disappoint.
After the movie, we watched our friends play some games at the arcade across from the theater, where Howie played a game of air hockey with Quin. Howie and I then went to Wal-Mart, where I finally picked up a nice big 24×36″ Fiskars cutting mat for my scrapbooking area at home. I really needed one and I’m tickled to be working again so I could buy one.
Not much else to report! We’re looking forward to a weekend in Maryland with Michael and Dea, the two wonderful folks we stayed with when Howie had his back surgery back in 2006. We can’t wait to see them!
Links display in my WordPress blog sidebar
I want users to have ready access to my various blogrolls and links, but I want the links to appear in my sidebar in the form of expandable content or as drop-down lists. I know I can use Blogrolling’s script in a text box widget and it works just fine; I just don’t want to take up all that vertical space in my sidebar.
Alas, I am at an impass. I’ve spent hours looking on WordPress support forums and searching Google for solutions.
Until I can figure out how to use (a) Flooble’s expandable content script or (2) utilize a drop-down menu way to display my various blogrolls in my sidebar, my links will be on the Linky Goodness page instead of in my index’s sidebar.
If I were a whiz at CSS or javascript, this would be a piece of cake, I know! My main issue with Flooble is I’m not sure where to paste the first bit of script. They say to do this:
Copy and paste the following code into the top of your page (either right after the <BODY> tag,
or inside of the <HEAD> … </HEAD> tag). Do this only once per page, even if you are putting
more than one box with expandable content onto that page.
With all the themes available and all the templates under WP’s Presentation tab, I have no idea where to plug that little tidbit in. Second, I’m not sure where to put each script I generated for each blogroll. My Flooble script has the blogrolling script embedded in it.
Along the same line, I need to know if it’s best I put the script in a text widget? Can I have more than one script per text widget? Or do I need to bypass widgets and insert them in the sidebar template itself?
I really, really need to learn CSS and how this all works together. Some templates just call information out of other files, while others have content in them. It’s mind-boggling to me and the thought of learning all this well enough to be proficient at it is kind of scary. It’s the age-old question: Do I really NEED to know this? Well, unless I am to remain dependent on longsuffering friends and hours of trial and error on my part, the answer is yes.
About the blogrolling itself now. I know WordPress has its own links feature and even sports a bookmarklet which makes it easy to add links. However I’d really rather use Blogrolling because the organization is quick and easy to me. Is there some other option I’m missing? As long as I can make use of OPML files and switch easily between services, I’m all ears.
New host, new style
It’s new and soon to be improved! We’ve switched hosts as well as publishing platforms. We’re now hosting with Hostmonster. As far as blogging goes, goodbye MovableType, hello WordPress! Unfortunately, our wonderful designs, designed by Mandi, probably won’t translate well to WordPress. Right now, Howie and I will just use basic templates, but look for new designs before too long. Bear with us until the dust settles, please. We are not knowledgeable with CSS, so we’re relying on our friend William to help us with this big switch. Howie’s site isn’t up as of the time of this posting, but it will be soon.
NOTE: Images in old entries are not going to show up until I get them from my backups from the old MT blog folders, copy them to this new site, and change all the image references to point to them. Sorry! ![]()
Grisham and Caribou
It’s probably the closest I will ever come to sitting down with John Grisham, but that’s okay.
Why insurance premiums are so high
Monday’s mail rained heavily through the mailslot in our door.
Lunchtime at Subway
We are either in Bardstown, KY or close to it. We’re eating lunch at a Pilot station right off the interstate.

We are crossing the bridge into Kentucky!
