The Matrix, run on Windows
First, let me say that I am a Windows user. With the exception of a few annoyances, I really like the OS. That said, I laughed out loud at this video, The Matrix Runs on Windows. Enjoy!
The paperclip bit is icing on the cake.
Nerd love: ZXing barcode reader app for G1
My hubby is a programmer for a direct mail company and deals with barcodes a lot. He’s so happy to have found the barcode reader app for our G1 phones.
Then, he decided he wanted to make some QR codes since the postal service codes and UPC codes weren’t enough! So, found a QR code generator and made a QR code for me.
It’s the geeky thing to do, after all.

He e-mailed it to me…Look familiar? They’re great because they are able to contain more data than the standard barcodes we’ve had for years now. And the cool thing about these barcode reading apps is, they’ll even read them off of a monitor!
So, all I had to do was open the barcode reader app and use the phone’s camera to view the code. The app scanned it and decoded the message. This is note passing in the 21st century! Oh, my gosh we are nerds!
So, was his message the equivalent of sweet nothings whispered in my ear?
Mmmm, depends on how you look at it, I guess! It’s a nod to The Princess Bride, so I guess that’s close enough. Click this image to view it full-size.
As you wish, dear. As you wish.
Jiminy Cricut!
I just thought of what I think is a catchy domain name to use for a new blog I’m thinking of starting about Cricut projects and tips. Yep, JiminyCricut.com! Best yet, no one had registered it, so I snatched it up tonight.
Ummm….Forgive me, honey? I mean, c’mon, how perfect is this?! (Edit: I love the man! Love him! He smiled and shook his head. He had to admit it was a great domain name and it was good I grabbed it.)
Man, I wish I could buy the .net, .info, .us, etc. Ah well, at least I got the .com since that’s the first one people typically think of. It would have been great to register those others plus variations with common misspellings, like jimminycricut or jimmenycricut, too…No budget for that, though!
Woman at work
If you’re visiting and everything looks freakin’ crazy on this page, please just ignore it and know things will be better soon. I’m playing with themes and some don’t quite work.
Twiddling my thumbs
My Cricut still hasn’t come in at the scrapbook store. It was supposed to be there on Monday. They’re closed now through Friday while they move to the new location next door to their current storefront. I know it’s a busy and crazy time for them since their grand re-opening in the new store is on Saturday.
I’m not mad at them or anything, just anxious to use my new machine! So, I’ve been reading up on the Cricut and Sure Cuts A Lot boards and I’ve been twiddling my thumbs…
While I was at it, I made the above animated gif myself, a first for me. How? Thanks to people creating some handy conversion applications, it wasn’t that complicated.
First, I shot a brief video of my hands as I twiddled my thumbs. I shot the video with our Sony Cybershot DSCW150, using the lowest quality 320×240 MPEG video setting so the clip would be a small file. Don’t let it fool you - that little camera can shoot some really nice video. I had to go with a lesser quality video for this purpose, though, because highest quality mode produced a file over 30MB in size and I just wanted to do a quick conversion.
Converting the clip to an ani was easy, thanks to an online file conversion site I found: VTubeTools. It worked like a charm! I told it to start about 2 seconds into the clip since the beginning shows my right hand coming into the frame right after I pushed the shutter button. I had it capture the next 5 seconds of video. It came out right the first time through, surprisingly. You’ll notice a little hiccup where it loops, but it’s really not too bad for a first attempt.
You still have time to vote!

New features at the Plot
I’ve added a couple of links to the sidebar. One is a Subscribe to RSS link that will take you to a page listing many different feed readers with which you can subscribe to this blog’s feeds.
The second is one which lets you subscribe to this blog via e-mail. I love the e-mail option, myself. I don’t always remember to check Google Reader. When I do, there are dozens of blogs on my list and I don’t always get to my favorite blogs’ posts. E-mail notification works great for me since I always check my e-mail and will read blog entries when I see a new one in my inbox. Here’s the link for e-mail subscriptions: Subscribe by Email
I will be adding the new comment notification back again, too. Watch for it! ![]()
