Just what is Teshy Goodness? Why, he’s Teshilicious! He’s Teshtastic! He’s the Teshmesiter!

Snoop Teshy Tesh!

This page is devoted to all things John Tesh. And, yes, I am a big dork. Unapologetically so. Life’s too short to take yourself too seriously.

John is one of Howie’s and my favorite composers, commentators and performers. For a while, we just knew him as the former co-host of Entertainment Tonight, who desired to do music full-time. We heard he was a good musician, so when the opportunity came for us to see him in concert locally, we went.

The concert was at The Columbus Zoo back in the mid-1990′s, part of their Rhythm & Zoo outdoor concert series. It had been raining all day, so the ground was mush and we had only brought a blanket to sit on; it turned out a lot of people there were in the same situation, but no one seemed to mind. Lost in John’s music and anecdotes, the crowd sat or reclined on the soggy ground. No one thought anything of having a wet bottom. It was just that good, and it’s one of our best memories as a couple.

My boss at the time teased me about being a John Tesh fan. You have to remember, this was the early to mid-90′s, when he was still co-hosting on Entertainment Tonight and regarded as a bit of an oddball. His music, for lack of a better genre title, was classified as new age, and he was much maligned. I never got that, but then again, I love classical music and jazz.

Well, one Monday morning, I arrived to work only to find an autographed picture of John Tesh awaiting me on my desk. My boss had been to a charity auction that weekend and bought the picture for me as a practical joke. Well, I had the last laugh, for John was destined to be on my bulletin board for the remainder of my service there.

There are a lot of musicians and bands we like, but don’t care if we ever see in concert. We’ve been to a few shows, so excited, only to see the performers stand stoically in place and not show any emotion. The best concerts are those in which the musicians have fun and engage the audience.

John gets that! That’s one thing we really like about him: his self-effacing humor. He understands that you can’t take yourself too seriously. In short, he’s a big goofball. Oh, yes, we 40-something goofballs — still in love and still best friends who erupt into fits of laughter together — we relate to him. Our favorite funny Tesh bit of all time is When Teshes Attack, which you can see below.

We’re so glad he acted on his desire to pursue a career in music and to add the radio show. His worship albums are fantastic, among our favorites. And we always learn something from listening to his shows.

  • 1998 Yahoo Music story on John Tesh
I love what he had to say when asked why people are so critical of him: “I think maybe it’s because people are a little uncomfortable seeing somebody happy in what they do,” shrugs Tesh….”If you openly profess your love for your wife or your commitment to your marriage…or the fact that you love your kids, it’s like, ‘Oooh, this guy’s way too clean-cut for us!’ I don’t know why people are uncomfortable with that. It’s like, ‘Uh-oh, this guy might be a nice guy; let’s get outta here! I’m much more comfortable with Kurt Cobain!’ Well, I’m sorry, but the ‘tortured artist’ thing isn’t something I do well.”

John Tesh Videos

Here are my videos and YouTube playlists, featuring John Tesh music, radio show clips, concert footage, guest appearances and a whole lot more.

When Teshes Attack

Conan. Tesh. One of the funniest clips we’ve seen, twisted and brilliant. They must have had a blast making this thing. If this doesn’t prove John has a weird sense of humor, nothing does. Any time Conan has John on, it’s a must-see.
