Independence Day Eve

Happy Independence Day! I took a lot of pictures tonight at the OSU-N/COTC campus’ festivities. So far, this is my favorite. I may or may not post more of them.

I used our Fuji FinePix S9100. I had it on manual focus and trained it on the building in the foreground. It was on aperture priority mode and set it to F8; that resulted in 4-second exposures. I used a tripod and had the camera in its continuous drive mode, which took four consecutive shots when I kept the shutter depressed. It would take four shots, then take a moment to write them to the card, then be ready for four more. It was interesting trying to time the series just right…A little disappointing in results.

Also, in retrospect, I should have adjusted the focus so the fireworks would be in sharper focus, but there was nothing to focus on in the sky beyond the building and tree. Live and learn! 🙂

The grand finale was *marvelous*, the best we’ve seen there yet.

  1. Wow! Great picture Kimberly! I never have much luck with taking pictures of fireworks. Also I suddenly realized I don’t have you linked on my site! I’m going to add you to my blog roll!

  2. I like that shot. The building in focus makes the height of the pyrotechnics stand out. I was hoping to try taking a few trys at fireworks pics too but had to work and missed them

  3. Hey, guys, thanks for the comments. We’re going to see the concert and fireworks at Dawe’s Arboretum Sunday night, so I hope to get some more shots. The pavilion and crowd make those interesting shots when they come out. I might post some from last year, too.
