Happy time: Weezer’s video for Island in the Sun
Since getting back from vacation, I’ve been in a real funk. I just can’t get myself moving. I overdid it a little while we were in Kentucky and I’ve been sore this week, so that’s part of it. The rest, who knows…Maybe it’s that persistent feeling of being in limbo.
What’s a good remedy for the blues? How about all kinds of baby animals and a song about vacation? I just saw this Weezer video and it made me smile. It’s directed by Spike Jonze and is pure fun.
Be sure to check out :36 when you watch it. The lyrics to Island Under the Sun are below the video. Enjoy!
Island in the Sun

hip hipWhen you’re on a holiday
You can’t find the words to say
All the things that come to you
And I wanna feel it tooOn an island in the sun
We’ll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can’t control my brainhip hip
hip hipWhen you’re on a golden sea
You don’t need no memory
Just a place to call your own
As we drift into the zoneOn an island in the sun
We’ll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can’t control my brainWe’ll run away together
We’ll spend some time forever
We’ll never feel bad anymorehip hip
hip hip
hip hipOn an island in the sun
We’ll be playing and having fun
And it makes me feel so fine
I can’t control my brainWe’ll run away together
We’ll spend some time forever
We’ll never feel bad any moreHip Hip
We’ll never feel bad anymore
(hip hip)
(hip hip)
No no
(hip hip)
(hip hip)
We’ll never feel bad anymore
(hip hip)on an island in the sun
The credits on YouTube said with Spike Jonze, Vincent Landay. The upload there was poor quality, though, so I found it elsewhere. The first video they put out for this is also known as the Mexican Wedding version. You can see it here.
I first heard Weezer’s music when their Buddy Holly video came pre-loaded on Windows 95 as a sample video. Remember that classic, which magically put them in Arnold’s on Happy Days? Yep, that was a long time ago, especially when you think of what technology was popular back then.
Anyway, I didn’t keep up with Weezer for many years, but my interest in them is renewed.
