:-) I had to start from the end and go back sequentially. All the dogs I picked were breeds I'd never heard of. That it was a puppy surprised me. The video surprised me only in the behavior of the cat ;-) I still prefer Collies but I only have space for a Shetland & 3 cats. :-)

I wondered about that. From what I've read, that will produce greens and possibly set seed, but the bulb itself will not divide or grow. The bulb may end up absorbed into the onion stalk/greenery. Bummer!

Using a plastic bag is so much easier, anyway. Just squish it and forget it. I found it interesting that the starter bags I popped into the freezer haven't frozen completely. Then I realized, there's probably enough alcohol in them, it's preventing a hard freeze.

Yeah, their instructions about no metal aren't very clear. It's safe to use decent-quality stainless steel with the Amish friendship starters as well as sourdough (wild yeast) starters. Aluminum should not be used, nor should poor quality stainless steel that flakes, chips, stains, and rusts like the stuff I get here in Sri Lanka. The acid from the starter can leach metals into the starter, and that changes which bacteria and yeast can grow along with making it taste awful.

I speak from personal experience on the cheap quality stainless steel front. :)

Wow, what a heart wrenching story. If we could add another dog to our family, I'd be tempted. Poor Eli. What a crime to chain a dog on a short tether and only come out once a week to feed him. I think it should be illegal to do that and those people should have a private circle in hell for that behavior. After a few months, they should have given Eli away to someone who would have loved him properly during the bulk of those five years.

We have a rescue dog, 7 and a half years it's been now, and he still has a few issues from before we adopted him. But he is safe, has his own door, is loved immensely by his family, and is basicly very happy and healthy. He too loves the walk-in closet, knows it as his crate, but then transfers over to the big plushy dog bed next to our bed after about 30 minutes every night.

Good luck with finding a home for Eli. He really deserves the very best!
