It seems like only yesterday…Hey, wait, it WAS only yesterday! Anyway, join me on a trip down memory lane to Special Efxx Hair & Nails, the scene of something exceptional.

Following in the footsteps of my pal Angie, I took a bold step Saturday and got my hair styled.

Back up a bit with me here. When I left my full-time job back in 2000, I had a bob hairstyle and a perm. As my old badge confirms, it was not flattering. After I left work, I let my hair grow out, thinking it would be fun to have it all long and one length for the first time in my life.

It grew pretty quickly, and by summer of 2003, it was down to the middle of my back. It saved me a ton of money in haircuts, too. It was fun for a while, but it got old…Because it readily tangled in any kind of breeze, I wore it in a braid almost all the time.

Ready for a little change, last year I got a good 18″ cut off and sent my ponytail went to Locks of Love. I didn’t really get it styled much, though, and it was still basically one length and still not all that flattering. I felt frumpy and dowdy (matronly, even!) and hardly bothered putting on makeup unless I was going to sing or I knew someone would take my picture.

Well, much has changed. I’ve decided I want to be a girl again, wear makeup, take better care of myself. I think it will help me be motivated to start exercising again and lose weight. I want change, and not just on the outside.

  1. Your hair looks adorable! You made a great decision. I got mine cut in January after years of doing nothing with it and I am so happy with it. It is in a “bob” style and much easier to manage. I too, was pulling my long hair back every day just because it got so hot!
    The pictures are great!!!!!
