I was reading some information on websites concerning protecting flower bulbs from chipmunks when this ad caught my eye. Doesn’t it look like she’s wearing a cat hat? What a funny combination to have shown up!
For those of you who want to know about keeping chipmunks and squirrels out of your flower bulbs, the consensus seems to be laying 1/4″ hardware cloth down over the bulbs, extending a foot past each border of the bed, and covering that with your mulch or soil. A friend in Ontario said the critters figured out they could pull up an edge and burrow beneath it. Her stargazer lilies are chipmunk food! Repellants and moth balls only work for so long and are not proven to keep the buggers away.
