Buy a new identity at JC Penney’s

The catalog center’s returns room often has personalized clothing. Today there was a bonanza! It’s fun to imagine what the people are like and why they returned the custom-embroidered clothes. Howie and I looked through them, while he decided who he’d like to be. I think they’d be great for the basis of Halloween costumes; you could build a whole character around each one.

  1. It seems like they would have a rule that once a name is monogrammed, there can be no returns. It just seems like more work for them.

  2. Not to bum you out, but couldn’t that be dangerous? People could buy those clothes and then pose as a repair man or something else in order to get into an apartment or house.

  3. Sure, they could. I’ve seen such monogrammed and personalized stuff at thrift stores, too. It’s not hard for criminals to get a hold of such things, and there are any number of embroidery shops out there.

I’m not sure what the store’s policy is for personalized stuff. They have a separate catalog for business attire like that. They may only allow returns if the products are defective or if the personalization is done incorrectly. I haven’t looked it up.
