Avon Calling
Our local Cheapcycle group has the usual assortment of stuff for sale, with the occasional post for services for things like babysitting or housecleaning. Today I read an ad that caught my interest, and I want to share it with my readers.
Wanted: Online Customers for my 13 Year Old Daughter’s Business
I signed up for Avon so that my 13 year old daughter can sell it to
make money for her college fund. Since she doesn’t drive, she needs
online customers. Her url is http://www.youravon.com/kpassYou’ll find a link on the left for the latest brochures. Be sure to
check out their Outlet brochure. There are some really great buys in
it. Shipping will never be more than $3 and Avon will keep you up to
date on new campaigns and special promotions as well as send you a
catalog for the next campaign. As a side note here, my 13 year old joined our family when she was 8
and has made great strides during that time. She went from being a
very angry, undisciplined child to a fantastic go-getter with amazing
goals. It would really please me to know that I can help her reach
those goals. To do that, I want to ask just one more thing. Even if
you are not interested in Avon, please share her link with others.Thank you so much for your help!
It’s great that this girl ended up with a family that’s helped her to flourish! Her mom obviously loves her very much and that she encourages her in a business is wonderful. I definitely remember what I was like at 13 and I can guarantee I wasn’t thinking about goals or business. My mom and I were pretty much in survival mode, the both of us.
It’s not any more expensive than the better makeup brands available in retail stores, and they make good products. They have some great deals online, too.
This young woman’s dreams are a good thing - let’s support her! Please, even if you’re not in the market for Avon products, send her link to someone you know who is.
Happy time: Weezer’s video for Island in the Sun
Since getting back from vacation, I’ve been in a real funk. I just can’t get myself moving. I overdid it a little while we were in Kentucky and I’ve been sore this week, so that’s part of it. The rest, who knows…Maybe it’s that persistent feeling of being in limbo.
What’s a good remedy for the blues? How about all kinds of baby animals and a song about vacation? I just saw this Weezer video and it made me smile. It’s directed by Spike Jonze and is pure fun.
Be sure to check out :36 when you watch it. The lyrics to Island Under the Sun are below the video. Enjoy!

Just a place to call your own

We’ll spend some time forever
We’ll never feel bad anymorehip hip

The credits on YouTube said with Spike Jonze, Vincent Landay. The upload there was poor quality, though, so I found it elsewhere. The first video they put out for this is also known as the Mexican Wedding version. You can see it here.
I first heard Weezer’s music when their Buddy Holly video came pre-loaded on Windows 95 as a sample video. Remember that classic, which magically put them in Arnold’s on Happy Days? Yep, that was a long time ago, especially when you think of what technology was popular back then.
Anyway, I didn’t keep up with Weezer for many years, but my interest in them is renewed.
Hattie cat
Our little Hattie Cat is such a sweet kitty. Right now, she’s sitting on the arm of the recliner, purring away.
We got her as a wee kitten in the winter of 1999 or 2000, adopting her the same weekend our beloved Siamese cat Promise died. At the vet’s office where she was fostered, the staff had nicknamed her Bocelli, after opera singer Andrea Bocelli; thank goodness that tiny kitten didn’t bring that lungpower into adulthood!
When we brought her home we learned she had an oral fixation. The vet said she was probably weaned too soon, the lone kitten inadvertently left behind when a stray mama kitty and her litter were taken away from an apartment complex.
She’d thrived at the vet’s and was very attached to people. Literally. At any chance, Hattie would knead and suckle on an arm, hand or any other exposed skin. And it was LOUD! One night Howie woke me up, saying, “get her off your arm. She’s making so much noise, it’s driving me crazy!” I’d been sound asleep and didn’t notice the steady skweee-skweee-skweee. She got him back, though, attaching herself to his nipple another night.
Thank goodness she outgrew that, too! Now, if she wants attention and scritches, she’ll come up beside me, stare in my eyes, and poise one front paw up before her, kneading the air. She will also give a couple of quick licks to the arm, as if to say, “it could be worse…remember what I used to do.”
If ignored when she comes into the bathroom while the toilet is occupied, she’ll stand on her hind legs, balancing against the sitter’s knee with her left paw, and reach her right paw up in entreaty. All our four-footed pets dearly love Toilet Time, but Hattie is so endearing with it all. LOL

7 years
My great aunt and her friends Suzanne and Marylou were just discussing mom’s sister. Suzanne asked mom how old Bonnie is.
Mom looked toward Auntie Barb, who said, “she’s seven years younger than you, Cathy”.
Suzanne looked at mom and asked, “well how old are you, then?”.
She paused, then replied in an even tone, “seven years older than Bonnie”.
A cat butt trumps all
I was going through some of my photos at Flickr and ran across this shot of Emma and the cats. Click the thumbnail to view the original. Dogs are just gross. But, when you think about it, so are humans. We might not lick our nether regions (though you know some people would if they could - blech!), but we have plenty of other nasty habits.
Our interpersonal habits are the foulest. If we showed the simple, unconditional love that our canine companions do, life would be happier. This would have to be balanced with common sense, though, because a dog will lick the very hand that beats it.
Two-headed dog?

Luca and Gida, Play 08, originally uploaded by Bgrax
No, this is not a two-headed dog, but it certainly looks like one at first glance. What a great optical illusion! More than that, it just begs for a story. This is the comment I left:
I love this! To me, the lighting looks like the soft glow of TV and makes me see a story. Luca and Gida were playing tug, but something on the TV caught their attention. They paused, mid-tug, and their jaws dropped in amazement.
What did they see?
Feel free to chime in below in the comments.
I really enjoy Bgrax’s photos and in seeing them wish I’d learned how to shoot on a film camera first. A friend loaned me a Yashica 35mm camera and a bunch of lenses while I was in high school, and that’s what really got me hooked. My great uncle and aunt bought me a Minolta X-370 as a high school graduation gift. Finally, in about 1997, Howie and I bought a Canon Rebel G.
Still, though I have always had a good eye, I never had the technical expertise to get the images out of the camera that I saw in my head. Not only that, I never knew why some of my shots came out well and why others were duds.
I have no formal training. It wasn’t until I started shooting digital and having that instant feedback that I learned how, for instance, the use of aperture can take an okay shot and make it sing.
So, when I see someone who has mastered film like this, it makes me feel both wowed and wistful.
New features at the Plot
I’ve added a couple of links to the sidebar. One is a Subscribe to RSS link that will take you to a page listing many different feed readers with which you can subscribe to this blog’s feeds.
The second is one which lets you subscribe to this blog via e-mail. I love the e-mail option, myself. I don’t always remember to check Google Reader. When I do, there are dozens of blogs on my list and I don’t always get to my favorite blogs’ posts. E-mail notification works great for me since I always check my e-mail and will read blog entries when I see a new one in my inbox. Here’s the link for e-mail subscriptions: Subscribe by Email
I will be adding the new comment notification back again, too. Watch for it! ![]()
