Herding Cats
I’d seen a shorter version of this ad on TV, or at least one similar to it. The production is great. Watch it a few times for all the subtleties.
Dual meanings
The headline caught my eye, bringing up a mental image of calamity. What happened? Did a wall fall on him? Did the roof cave in?
Install Love
The e-mail forwards god has smiled upon me and I received something great in my inbox today. I like the idea, and the presentation is pretty fun - Especially to anyone who has been on either side of a tech support call regarding the installation of software.
Rich Littles of birds
Several times a day, a male catbird serenades us in our yard. His songs are peppered with samples of other birds’ calls and songs, always entertaining. Catbirds are part of the Mimidae family, which includes catbirds, mockingbirds and thrashers. Our couple is shy, so we’re much more likely to hear them than see them when we’re outside.
Our friend Dea alerted me to an amazing David Attenborough video of a lyrebird (Menura novaehollandiae) going through its repertoir of songs. The video’s hosted at Google’s video service, but I’ve embedded the content here for your convenience. Take special note of the non-organic environmental sounds it has learned to immitate. All I can say is, I am glad our catbirds don’t immitate car alarms and chainsaws!
Picasa by Google
I’ve used Picasa for about a year now, yet I’ve never posted a review about it. That oversight ends now, for I’ve been playing with its features a lot the last few weeks and am just bursting with love for it.
Picasa, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…
I love thee for thy simplicity:
It is simple enough I am confident about installing it on the computers of those unfamiliar with basic photo editing. But it’s also feature-filled enough, I use it myself and recommend it to seasoned digital photographers.
I love thee for helping me organize my photos:
Centaurs in love
Google’s video archive has some unusual stuff. I’ve never seen animation this old, for instance. The Centaurs was produced in 1921. I’m amazed with the gracefulness of the characters in the beginning. The baby centaur is pretty freaky, though.
Double rainbow
Yesterday, I got to enjoy one of those unique weather perspectives: being right on the line between thunderstorm and sunshine.
